Pronouns vs. other nouns • In some ways, pronouns are like other nouns. They can appear in subject and object positions just like nouns, but in other situations they are different. • Subcategories are subtypes of larger categories. So nouns are a category, and pronouns are a subcategory of nouns.
Feature Notation • We can indicate a subcategory with a feature structure. • Feature structuresare notations associated with a word to indicate the properties of a word. • Features are indicated between square brackets • E.g. Dog [CATEGORY N]
