  2. Where is Nanjing • Situated at the east of China, very near Shanghai • Nearby cities: Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, etc. They are all worth travelling to

  3. What you can anticipate there • Ancient history and culture — a famous ancient capital in China, the capital of 10 dynasties • Food! — delicious food to taste

  4. Beautiful places • Cufucius temple (fuzimiao) — the holy shrine of Confucius, the outstanding ancient Chinese philosopher and thinker • It was first built in 1034, the Song dynasty • National examinations were held here • The surrounding place was red-light district in ancient time, especially in the Ming and Qing dynasties

  7. Beautiful places(continue) • Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum— tomb of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang (Ming Dynasty) • The construction of the mausoleum began in 1381 and ended in 1405, taking 100 thousand labors 25 years

  9. Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen • Dr. Sun has been respected as Father of Modern China. He led the 1911 revolution to end feudal system and found Republic of China. He died in 1925 in Beijing. • Construction of the tomb started in 1926, taking three years.
