Reflection Think about the process… OFF YOU GO!!
Bringing it back - Resources to prepare on your own • Map • Instruction sheets • Symbol cards • “Codes” - Answers • Water-soluble markers • PowerPoint Slides for the lesson
Bringing it back – Planning • 1. Get a school map • Simplify the map such that only items/locations that the kids need are on it. (Can be done as you do the next step.) • Indicate North on the map. (Need not be the real north.)
Bringing it back – Planning • 2. Identify a starting point • Find a starting point that will be easy for kids to start off such as an open space. • From the starting point, look for obvious spots for clues . (Use spots that you can easily plan the routes.)
Bringing it back – Planning • Planning of routes • Plan different routes leading to the same locations. • To avoid everyone running in the same directions. • To prevent herd syndrome
Bringing it back – Planning • 4. Form clues • Give only easily solved clues • Confine locations to a manageable area for safety reasons and keeping the task to a reasonable lesson time.
Bringing it back – Planning • Come up with all the possible answers • Laminate all the clue cards and letters (to re-use in future).
Bringing it back – Execution • Put up the laminated symbols only on the day itself before the lesson. • Conduct a pre-activity briefing informing pupils of the task, rules of the game and safety rules. • Do a demo practice in class to give the class an idea of what to expect.
