Mercury Chloe Chaney-Mitchell
Have you ever wondered about the name Mercury? What is Mercury? Is it like the moon? Well I will tell you everything you need to know! Mercury is the first planet in our solar system. The planet Mercury is only 3,031 miles wide, wow! Mercury is the smallest of the planets. Only the dwarf planets are smaller. It’s pretty small. Did you know that? The planet Mercury also has no atmosphere.
Would you like to know more? Well then did you know Mercury is 35,983,095 miles away from the sun? Also, it’s the closest planet to the sun! It takes Mercury 58.65 days to rotate, and 88 days to revolve on its axis.
Mercury is a cool planet because it has no moon. The surface of the planet is much like our moon. Also like our moon, Mercury is very hot in the day and very cold at night.
I think you should know the most awesome thing about Mercury. That is who this planet happens to be named after. Mercury is named after a Roman god, a messenger with wings in his heels! WOW, I wish I had those! In 1974 Mercury was visited by Mariner 10, a satellite sent out to take pictures. I want to see Mercury in person. I think that’s all I can tell you about the planet Mercury at this time.
