James Cash Penney • Born on September 16, 1875 • Family values: Golden Rule, self-reliance, self –discipline, honor, and education • Began work at a Golden Rule dry goods store • Moved to Kemmerer, Wyoming to start his own Golden Rule store • Changed name to the J.C. Penney Company • He died in New York on February 12, 1971 at the age of 95 • J.C. Penney celebrated 100 years of business (2002)
