Strategies to Increase Student Achievement & Teacher Capacity • Weekly grade level meetings to discuss and share strategies across all content areas • Monthly staff in-services and trainings • Focused Tiered Instruction driven by pre- and post-assessments • Monthly meetings with Sp. Ed. teachers to share strategies and focus on interventions • Peer observations across grade levels

Strategies to Increase Student Achievement & Teacher Capacity • Data team creates themes and goals for the school each nine weeks and for the year • Data team creates specific strategies across the content for teachers based on current assessment data • Leadership team uses DataCation to track and monitor the progress of Tier II and III students in reading and math

  12. Areas of Focus • Small group tiered instruction in all reading classes • The Data Team focuses on the lowest SOL strands for each grade level in reading and math based on benchmark tests. The Data Team provides specific intervention strategies for each SOL strand. • Pearson training was facilitated by staff members for all K-5 math teachers in the building. • In-School remediation is built into the master schedule for every grade level. After school tutoring will be offered to Tier II and Tier III students in Reading and Math starting in January 2013.

  13. Addressing the Gaps (Local School Improvement Plan) • Weekly meetings between Inclusion teachers and their co-teachers • Monthly planning meetings between Regular and General Education teachers • Teachers will use Brain compatible strategies as referenced by Marsha Tate.

  14. Professional Development • School-wide Guided Reading\Notebook\Running Records Management training provided to K-5 Reading teachers • Pearson Math implementation for grades K-5 • Improving teacher\student connections.

SUCCESSES • In 2012 Grade 5 History scores increased 26 percentage points from previous year • Grade 4 History scores increased 9 percentage points from previous year • Grade 5 Science scores increased 13 points from previous year • In 2012 students at Hillpoint scored 7 percentage points above the state average for math. • In 2012 Black students scored 9 points above the state average for that subcategory. • In 2012 Economically Disadvantaged students scored 6 points above the state average in math for that subcategory. • Met or exceeded benchmarks on all State tests

Planning Ahead • 45 Day Plan to address the needs of Tier II and Tier III students 45 days from the start of SOL testing. • After school tutoring program for students in grades 2-5 in reading and math. • Leadership and Data teams will review the effectiveness of the schools remediation and intervention plans.
