Here are the questions you need to ask yourself before choosing a makeup artist: How would you describe your style? Wedding hair and makeup needs reflect your style and your wedding dress. Maven is renowned for making sure their clients envisioned look is achieved, whether its natural, glam, or vintage inspired, the team will make sure you are 100% happy with your end look.
Ask how many years your stylists have been in the wedding industry for? With all having over 10 years+ of experience, the team at Maven are all passionate experts in dealing with bridal parties. ‘We pride ourselves on bringing a calm energy to the wedding day with a friendly manner and attention to detail is crucial to deliver flawless looks for everyone’s different hair and makeup styles. We believe that style is personal. It’s about embracing who you are as an individual and allowing this to be reflected in every element of your wedding, from fashion to décor, to the photography. It’s all about the look you want at the end of the day and our job as stylists is to make your vision a reality,’ says Chloe.
What is your experience and training background? Chloe began with a passion for makeup from a young age and then went on to study, gaining a diploma in Makeup Artistry at NZ’s Academy of Film and Television Makeup school. From there she went onto start her makeup career with the guru of the natural look, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, where she stayed for 3 years learning and mastering bridal looks, the art of the natural look and learning colour and application from some of the best international makeup artists in the world. Chloe took all of her experience and learnings from Bobbi and went out on her own as a freelance makeup artist, specialising in makeup for Weddings and Events. After a couple of years, she formed Maven Styling with a group of likeminded artists and hair stylists, offering the best in bridal makeup and hair looks across Sydney. Chloe and her team’s work has graced the faces and heads of many brides all over the world. Check out mavenstyling.com.au to see the galleries.
What makeup brands do you use? We use only the highest quality products such as MAC, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Anastasia, Stila, Two Faced, Morphe and Napolean. Everything we use is chosen to deliver a flawless, long lasting, camera ready look for our bridal parties.
What touch-up products do I need to make sure I have on my wedding day? • Ask your matron of honour or bridesmaid to carry your touch-up products, which are lipstick, powder, blot papers, tissues and a mirror, and ask them to be on makeup patrol, meaning letting you know if your lipstick needs a top up, if your skin is looking a bit shiny and if your hair needs fixing. • Your lipstick is the first to wear off, so I suggest buying the lipstick/gloss your makeup artist recommends at your trial. • Tissues in case you have a teary moment– dab so you don’t ruin your makeup, don’t wipe!
How much time do you need for each person on the wedding day? An experienced team will do the work of planning a hair and makeup schedule so everyoneis ready on time with a bit of extra time for the bridal party to take a breath, have a few celebration drinks, take a few pics and enjoy that getting ready time together before heading to the ceremony. Hair styling will take approximately 45-60 minutes per person, depending on the type of hair style. Makeup applications take approximately 45-60 minutes per person. If you have a large bridal party and an early ceremony time, we will schedule more stylists to make sure you are all ready on time. We are experienced with large bridal groups and are happy to accommodate the family and guests as well by assigning more stylists for the day.
Will the makeup look great in person and in photographs? Makeup can absorb or reflect light, a knowledgeable makeup artist will know what to use on your face and décolletage for a flawless look in person, under lights and cameras. The Maven team all use camera ready products of the highest standard, so you are in good hands. For the photos you need a bit more makeup than you’d normally wear, but the team always make sure you look picture perfect in the daylight too. We know from our many brides that they want to look like themselves on the day so their grooms recognise them as they walk down the aisle.
Do you offer a trial service? The trial is our first meeting and this appointment is where we make sure you are 100% happy with your wedding hair and makeup. We will discuss exactly what you have in mind for your big day. Don’t worry if you are unsure about what you want, just bring along pics you like and we will walk you through the process. If you don’t know what look you want we can suggest different ideas to suit your style, dress and wedding theme. Most hair and makeup trials take around three hours. We are mobile and can go to your home, or you are welcome to go to Chloe’s home in Bondi if that’s easier and you don’t want the husband-to-be to see your look. After your trial we suggest you try on your dress and take pics and if you need any tweaks made please let us know so we get your look is absolutely perfect on the day.
