The first seminar is a review some important information from the syllabus. Subsequent seminars will focus more on the scheduled topic. So relax and follow along…
For all course-related problems or concerns, you may always email me through Kaplan mail at: esmith2@kaplan.edu or contact me during office hours TTH 6-8 on AIM. My AIM ID is evamasmith
The SYLLABUS The syllabus covers Kaplan’s and my course policies and expectations. Be sure to read it thoroughly.
COURSE MATERIALS: Most important for this course is to have Microsoft Word. Not Microsoft Works, Word Perfect or WordPad. It must be Word. That is a Kaplan requirement
Course Textbook Title: Management of Food and Beverage Operations Author: Jack D. Ninemeier ISBN: 0-86612-268-0
Assignment Submissions: Be careful of assignment submission dates. Homework is expected to be submitted on or before the due date. Late submission results in loss of points.
Discussion Board (DB) The Discussion Board Requirement • Students are to post a minimum of three posts per discussion question. One initial response and two replies to their classmates. • Posting on a minimum of three different days, for example: Wednesday, Friday and Monday. • The first post must be made by Saturday.
Example: A good quality post is not, “Yeah, I agree Joe” or “That sounds good Prof”. If you agree with something Joe said tell us WHY you agree. If I make a statement that sounds good tell me WHY it sounds good to you. Provide examples if possible and throw out additional questions too if you want. Poor quality postings will not gain you points in the grading for the week.
2. Be sure to use spell check. Check for proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Good writing skills are becoming more and more important in the business world today.
3. Active participation means more than posting a few comments. It means engaging in the discussion and keeping the discussion flowing. X X X
SEMINAR Seminar Etiquette • Seminars will be held Units 1,5 and 8 ONLY • Let’s try and stay on track, which sometimes I am bad about going off on a tangent.
Grading The DB grade is updated by Saturday night. Assignment grades will be posted within 7 days of the due date.
Important! • Read the Syllabus! • Read all Announcements! • Read Doc Sharing/Webliography postings! • Read emails!
Whew … I think this is enough about course policies, don’t you? Be sure to contact me if you have questions!
