Title: text size 36 pt. Karl J. Jacobs Centerfor Science and Math • Text size 28 pt.
Project Features ACADEMIC • 5 Life Science Labs / 1 Stealth Lab (4 Current Labs) • Prep/Storage • 1 Cadaver Lab • 1 Greenhouse • Prep/Storage • 1 Instrument Room • 2 Student Resource Labs • Classrooms • 10 Large (includes 2 Stealth Labs) • 5 Small • 1 Math Lab (2 Rooms) • Student Life Space • 59 Faculty Offices • Adjunct Office Space for 16 • Faculty Support Office (FSO) Space • Departmental Office Space • IT Office • BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION • Pursuing LEED Gold Certification • 23 Alternate Bids • All Faculty Requests have been Included • 420-Ton closed-loop Geothermal System • Chilled Beam Cooling System • Connecting Link between CL-I and JCSM • 105 New Parking Spaces • Pendulum • Creek Enhancements • Photovoltaic System • Greenhouse • Green Roofs
Pursuing LEED Gold – 60 Points Required Currently at 68 • Energy Savings Measures • 420 ton closed-loop geothermal heating and cooling system • Chilled beam cooling system • Variable air volume air handling units • Energy recovery on air handling units • Variable volume heating and cooling pumps • High efficiency domestic water heating system • Variable frequency drives for motors • Building-integrated photovoltaics • Transformers bearing Energy Star labels • High efficiency light fixtures • Lighting controls • Occupancy sensors • Daylight harvesting sensors • Multiple switching zones • Use of low mercury lamps • Thermally efficient glazing (low-E coatings, ceramic fritting) • Reflective white roofing membrane • Enhanced commissioning Leadershipin Energy & Environmental Design • Upon completion, Rock Valley College will likely be • the first community college in Illinois to have two • LEED Gold projects on its campus.
Closed-Loop Geothermal System • The closed-loop Geothermal system include (8) water-cooled heat pump units, primarily loop water pumps, a 164 vertical well geothermal bore field, and associated piping. This system will work to create jobs, reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and leverage grant funding in a learning environment that can promote these initiatives to future generations. • ADVANTAGES • More efficient than the existing central heating and chiller water plant • Places the project in a better position to obtain LEED Gold Certification than more traditional systems • Excess capacity will be shared with CL-I building • Supports the College’s long standing “green” philosophy • Can be used as a teaching tool for sustainable design • SYSTEM ECONOMICS • Geothermal System Cost $1,783,000 • Less Conventional System Cost ($ 695,000) • DCEO Grant (Pending) ($ 420,000) • ICECF Grant (Pending) ($ 90,000) • Remaining Project Cost $ 578,000 • Modeled Annual Energy Cost Savings Compared to Traditional System: $76,000 • Simple Payback (Including Grants) 7.6 years
