  4. INSERT • Students make the following INSERT notations during reading. Notations may be made directly in the text to help them monitor their comprehension, interact with text, and consciously make decisions about the ideas in the text.

  5. INSERT • - I agree. Already know ? – I have a question about this ?? – Don’t understand + - This is important • Marginal notes • Use the symbol guide to make notes in the margin as you read (very lightly). • I will move around the room to monitor understanding.

  6. Cubing • Everyone needs a new clean sheet of paper • A writing instruments • Your thinking caps on.

  7. Cubing – International Trade • Describe it: Describe the concept of international trade. • Compare it: Compare it to other forms of trade. • Associate it: What does it make you think of? How does the topic connect to other topics/issues/subjects? • Analyze it: How does international trade relate to your everyday life. What does it “look like” Components? • Apply it: What can you do with it? How is it used? How does it help you understand other topics/issues/decisions/events? • Argue for or against it: Take a stand for or against the benefits of international trade. • I am for this because. . . . • I am not for this because. . . .

  8. Cubing • I will toss the cube around to each group and each person must give one answer for the side the cube lands on. • Every student is expected to write down the answers given by your fellow students. • Turn notes in for a grade.

  9. Boss / Secretary • Need a clean sheet of paper. • Your partner • I will read a question • Partner A (on left) – Boss • Partner B (right) – Secretary • 1st question, BOSS will tell secretary the answer. Secretary will record the answer • Reverse roles every question. • Grade will be given per pairs.

Questions • What does it mean id one country has an absolute advantage over another company? • Why do US companies import goods from other countries? • What does it mean for a country to have a trade deficit? • Name three trade protections measures countries impose? • What is the difference between competitive advantage and absolute advantage?
