Mechanism • Running And Jumping Repeatedly On Turf • Jamming The Toe • Bad Footwear
Signs And Symptoms • Stiffness • Swelling • Limited Range Of Motion • Pain • Discoloration
Treatments • R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) • Anti-Inflammatory Medication • Special Footwear Inserts • X-Ray • Surgery • Short Leg Cast • Walker Boot
Prevention • Proper Shoes • Switch To Grass Or Dirt Instead Of Turf
When Will I Be Able To Play? • Three Weeks Of Rest Should Occur To Allow The Joint Capsule To Heal. • Special Inserts May Be Used To Limit The Range Of Motion From Further Damage On The Joint Capsule • Ask Doctor To Evaluate Your Feet For Possible Inserts To Control Motion Of The Inflamed Joint.
Will Turf Toe Come Back? • If A Player Returns To Early To Their Sport After A Turf Toe Injury, The Injury May Come Back. • Bone Spurs May Occur Which Severely Limit The Range Of Motion Of The Toe Joint. If Bone Spurs Occur, Surgery May Be Needed.
