What is MedlinePlus Go Local? • MedlinePlus created by NLM in 1998 • Go Local created by NLM in 2004 • Invited medical libraries to submit proposals • Administered by NNLM regions (GMR) • NLM supplies infrastructure (database & vocabulary) • NLM coordinates organization & communication • State projects supply staff, data & promotion

What is Michigan’s Go Local? • 2004 – NLM accepted WSU Shiffman Go Local proposal for all of Michigan • 2005 – started populating database w/ 200 HIV records User Friendly Manual (Detroit Community AIDS Library) • 2007 – launched “live” 6,600 records • 2009 – now have 14,100 records – over 11,00 records audited

  7. Name Change • 2005 – selected name “Michigan Go Local” and created a banner/logo • 2009 – added “Health” to name “Michigan Health Go Local” and new banner/logo

  8. Content – Michigan Health Go Local • Statewide online directory • Health Services for entire state of Michigan • Indexed by type of service, health topic, location • Links to MedlinePlus topics • Filtered - credentials, currency, consumer • 24/7 Access • Contact Us/Feedback

Assessment • Quarterly Reports • Annual Assessment • 2007 Highlights • Added Free Clinics, Substance Abuse Facilities • Outreach – 13 events (public health, HIV, MHSLA/MLC) • 2008 Highlights • More Free Clinics, Mental Health Services • Outreach – 10 events (rural libraries, academic & public libraries) • 2009 Highlights • Dialysis Facilities, Acupuncturists, Animal Therapy, Rural Clinics • Outreach – 10 events (Midwest MLA, public library consortiums) • Start grant proposal process

Future Plans • GMR Funding – in process • 2010 Expansion of Michigan’s project • Promotion of MedlinePlus & Go Local to public libraries • Outreach – state library cooperatives, Library of Michigan, MeL • Target specific health professional groups (nurses, etc.) • Utilize Blog, Social Networking, other communication tools • Other Funding Sources • Collaborate w/ Health Literacy groups • Public Health organizations • Groups w/ interest in Consumer Health Information • Groups w/ interest in Community Outreach
