Representation in international agreements and cooperation on fisheries issues • The EU has exclusive competence in the field of fisheries and represents the member States in international agreements and cooperation in this field. This includes bilateral, regional and multilateral agreements and cooperation on fisheries issues. • Consequently, the EU negotiates fisheries agreements, including fisheries partnership agreements, with third States. The EU also represents the member States in regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs). Furthermore, the EU represents the member States in global cooperation on fisheries issues, in particular within the United Nations and FAO.
Representation in international agreements and cooperation on fisheries issues • Iceland negotiates various fisheries agreements with third States, primarily agreements with its neighbouring countries on fishing quotas and access. • Iceland also negotiates coastal States agreements with the EU and third States on the management of straddling stocks in the Northeast Atlantic. • Furthermore, Iceland takes an effective part in the work of regional fisheries management organizations of which it is a member. • Finally, Iceland takes an effective part in global cooperation on fisheries issues, in particular within the United Nations and FAO.
