  2. Release Notes & Motorola Presentations… • Motorola shares the Release Notes of upcoming software versions with us, the notes can be large and go into a lot of specifics & detail. Anyone reading the notes generally focus on their areas of involvement. • Motorola also does presentations on upcoming software versions, the presentations describe Feature Sets, Options, Capabilities & and the System Roadmap. Subject matter experts are also available to answer any concerns or questions. • As materials are shared with us, we distribute them to the ARMER-Admin distribution list.

  3. 7.13 software Has been installed in… • Starting in May of 2013… • RF equipment at the tower sites. • Console equipment at the dispatch locations. • Routers & Switches for the network transport equipment • Management servers at the zone controller locations. • NM Clients • Nice Loggers

Software Continues to be installed… • Regardless of the system version & upgrade status. • New Radio firmware & programming software “CPS”. • Antivirus definition updates. • System Enhancement Release 1 “SER1” is in process. • Patches & bug fixes. • New box software, “Network, RF Equipment, Consoles etc.” • Configurations are also continuously updated in everything from the infrastructure to the subscriber radios “TNCT etc.”

Provisioning Manager… • PM is the tool used to configure Talkgroups,& Radio Accounts. • Easier to use Web interface than the previous application. • Access licenses were upped from 9 to 15, with 30 Min. timeout. • Agencies can now “Distribute” their own changes. • Supports individual tailored views. • Supports exporting records into spreadsheet format, this is one of the steps we do in running the Monthly Reports. • Also has the Provisioning Manager Interface for 3rd party applications, such as Genesis.

Conventional Channel Gateways… • CCGWs are the connection interface for non-trunking resources, such as paging, Minsef, VHF etc. • The zone channel limitation “Trunking +Conventional” went from 700 to 1000 channels. When we are at 7.9 this was a problem for county transitions to ARMER in Central & SouthEast Minnesota. • CCGW resources can now be accessed by consoles across zones, in 7.9 consoles could only access CCGW resources that were connected to the same Zone controller as the console.

  7. Temporarily Unavailable Resources… • Monthly Reports were unavailablefor approximately 8 months as the MnDOT reporting tools were updated to match the Motorola software. The reporting methodology has changed to be minimally impacted by future upgrades. • In 7.9 we were able to import radio aliases from the configuration manager into the Gold Elite Consoles, but was initially lost in 7.13. This capability was been restored, we can now synchronize aliases between ARMER & Gold Elite consoles.

  8. Server & Workstation Computers… • Hardware: Servers were Sun Netra’s and HP G6’s, the server hardware has been replaced with HP G8’s. Workstations that were older than an HP 4600’s were replaced with newer model HP computers. The storage hardware for the servers has been upgraded as well. • Software: The servers used to run a Solaris operating system, they are now running Linux instead. The workstations were Vista only, now Windows 7 & is supported as well as Vista. • Antivirus: The software for antivirus protection was Symantec, in 7.13 this has now McAfee instead.

  9. Server Performance changes… • Publishes: The server for subscriber information, and the server for infrastructure information replicate data between each other. This used to run 3+ hours each way, if this overlapped, bad things would happen. The replication process now completes in about 3 minutes. • Zone Controller Switch: A Zone Controller switch used to take about 2 minutes for the standby zone controller to take over, this process now seems to take about 15 seconds. • Backups: Due to the system size, backups were becoming “difficult”, server backups are now reliable & fast.

  10. Miscellaneous… • Active Directory: Controls account permissions on the ARMER system, AD’s role in 7.13 has been expanded to include much more of the infrastructure management. • Documentation & Distribution server: Our documentation & software distribution server is now accessed thru a firewall, and permissions are controlled by Active Directory. • Genesis: Is a reporting system, it’s topology has been adjusted so that the Genesis servers are now accessed thru a firewall as well.
