Course Learning Objective • Given a PC, Dragon NaturallySpeaking software, and an Internet connection open to the training page, students will demonstrate knowledge of the basics of Dragon by scoring at least 70% on a test at the end of instruction.

Suggestions Before We Begin… • It is a good idea to print out a copy of these slides as a workbook • Go to FILE, PRINT, (“print what”) HANDOUTS, 3 to a page • You will then have a workbook you can use to go along with this slideshow • Go through this slideshow FIRST, then work through the examples in Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Lesson One:Get Up and Running • Step One: Adjust the Microphone • Step Two: Complete Enrollment Training on Speech Profile • Step Three: Enter Your Name in “Create User” • Step 4: Adjust Volume Level
Now That You’ve Trained Dragon… • Only Use YOUR Voice Profile • Periodically Readjust Audio Settings • Take a Break Now and Then… Don’t Strain Your Voice!
Lesson 2: Enunciation • Speak Clearly & Naturally • Click on the Microphone Button in the Toolbar at the Top of the Screen in Dragon • Say: Go to Sleep • This pauses the microphone
Enunciation, Cont’ • Say: Wake Up • This wakes up the microphone • Say: Microphone Off • This turns off the microphone • Say: Wake Up • Say: Start Dragon Pad
Enunciation, Cont’ • Say: Talk to your computer period Speak normally and say each word clearly Period Don’t should and don’t whisper Period Don’t stop in the middle of a sentence Period Practice speaking clearly Period

Lesson Three, Cont’ • Save Your Open Document (review lesson two, if necessary) • Transfer Your Skills to Microsoft Word • Close DragonPad and Open Word by Saying: Start Microsoft Word
Lesson Four: Training Speech Errors Permanently • Open DragonPad and Turn On Your Microphone (you should remember how to do this!) • Open the Correction Window. Say: Spell • After the Correction Window Opens, say: cap P U B L I S H cap V I E W • Note: The “cap” command capitalizes the first letter of the word
Lesson Four, Cont’ • Record Your New Word. Say: Train <pause> Record • Say: PublishView (as clearly as you can!) • Say: Done • Close the Correction Window by saying: OK • Test. Say: PublishView • It Should Appear on Your Screen
