Making Inquiry Public Foshay IB/LESSON DESIGN SHARE OUT
Why and How? • Why: Effective teaching practice is collaborative—create a forum for FEEDBACK and HONORING TEACHER WORK • How: In SHARE-OUT groups, all participants will present a brief overview of their IB unit with the following components:
COMPONENTS OF SHARE-OUT PRESENTATION • Brief—2-3 minutes • Introduction (Who you are, course, and team—if this is a team unit) • Overarching Question • Assessment and Rubric • 2-3 “special features” of your unit— [lessons, activities, issues/questions that you want feedback on]
OPTIONALS/RESOURCES • You can use any format for your presentation, either informal/formal, using Elmo machine to put up your deliverables or chart paper, you can create a PowerPoint. Visuals and artifacts are always fun!
GIVING/RECEIVING FEEDBACK • GIVING: *Paraphrasing/Active Listening *Goal is to help teacher reflect on their own process—not to “dictate” or “coach” teachers. *Pose questions that advance reflection. • RECEIVING: *Be clear about the type of feedback you want—i.e. if you want suggestions, or if you just want open-ended responses. Pose a question!
