House Presentations • You have 5 minutes to make any last minute adjustments. • Label your house with a note card and put it on the table in room 116. The judges will inspect each house. • Judges will ask you to present your house. • Clearly and completely cover all aspects of making the house, from design to construction • Clear and complete description of each circuit (including lamps, motor and switches) which will include an explanation of how you used concepts discussed in class in your project. (Why did you wire things the way you did? Series vs. Parallel) • Clearly describe problems with wiring your house • You should demonstrate each circuit as you explain it. • While the judges are judging, the rest of the class will work on the standing wave activities with Kevin.
Learning objectives • Determine the wavelength, frequency, period, and speed of a standing wave.
Standing waves • If an elastic “rope” is held at each end and vibrated at just the right frequency, a wave pattern would be produced that assumes the shape of a sine wave. • When the proper frequency is used, the addition of the incident wave and the reflected wave occur in such a manner that there are specific points along the medium that appear to be standing still. • What is the wavelength of each wave as a function of L? • Demo with springs
