In 1995-96, Oakland teachers struck for fair compensation and lower class size…
Though the strike did not win a binding commitment by the district to reduce class size locally…
…it helped pave the way only months later to funding for class size reduction statewide.
In 2003 OEA continued leading the way, beginning a campaign to make corporations pay for public education and other services.
