What are some ways that I can help my child prepare for this test ? Reading and Language : • Parents are important to children both as role models and as supporters of their efforts. • Establish one evening a week for reading (instead of television viewing). • Make time for the library. Provide books and magazines for your child to read at home. By reading new materials, a child learns new words that might appear on a test. • Encourage activities that require reading — for example, cooking (reading a recipe), constructing a kite (reading directions). • Talk to your child and encourage him or her to engage in conversation using English Language .
Mathematics : • It's also important to show how we use math’s skills in our everyday lives and to involve your child in this. Ex: Take your child shopping and talk about the quantities of anything you buy. Let your child handle money and work out how much things cost. • Involve older children in projects that incorporate geometric and algebraic concepts such as planting a garden, building a bookshelf, or figuring how long it will take to drive to your family vacation destination. 69% 88% 82%
