  13. Later that night the father prayed... “Dear God, make me the kind of man my son thinks I am.”

  14. God is our Father;

  15. We are told to pray; Our Father who art in Heaven... Hallowed be Your name. 10      Your kingdom come.     Your will be done      On earth as it is in heaven. 11      Give us this day our daily bread. 12     And forgive us our debts,      As we forgive our debtors. 13     And do not lead us into temptation,      But deliver us from the evil one.     For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. The Lord’s Prayer—Matthew 6:9-13

  16. Jesus taught that God was his father and our father; • John 20:17 • We can speak to God as a child to our parent. • Matthew 11:27 • Romans 8:15--For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father. • Galatians 4:6—And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!

  17. Jesus Explains the Father; John 16:25-33

  18. Our Father in Heaven cares for us; Even the small stuff; Matthew 6:28-32

  19. The Father is holy; John 15:23-26 Luke 18:19-God is Good Unlike the gods of the Greek and Roman myths who were short-tempered and immoral—the true God is just and righteous

  20. Jesus came to represent a purpose of God’s plan; John 6:38-40 The will of the Father was what was important to Jesus.

  21. Our Father is personal; John 15:9-14 Love of the Father is shown in the relationship of Jesus and the Father. The idea of us doing the will of the Father and obeying the commands of Jesus show we also are in a love relationship with the Father.

  22. Jesus showed the Father’s love as he sought out people afflicted with the effects of sin. C. G. Montefiore says, “The rabbis welcomed a sinner in his repentance. But to seek out the sinner ... was ... something new in the religious history of Israel.”

  23. Jesus and the Father are ONE John 10:30 Those who would deny the divinity of Jesus just need to read the words of Christ. See also John 17:22—the prayer in the garden.

  24. So what are the implications for us? • As a ‘Father’ I do have a model. • As a ‘Child’ I have a model. • As a Child of God I get to follow those models.
