  1. Characters Chapters 10-12

  2. Ralph • “I’m frightened. Of us. I want to go home” p. 157 • The morning after Simons death, Piggy and Ralph are in their own group and they are talking about what had happened the night before, trying to talk themselves out of what they had done • This is when Ralph grows up and realizes that being on the island is no longer a game and has also realized that the beast is inside each of them and that they are the ones to be afraid of.

  3. Piggy • “Ralph what am I going to do?” p. 168 • Piggy and Ralph had just been raided by Jack’s group and once Jacks group left, piggy realized what they had come to take, his glasses. • Piggy is worried that now he doesn’t have any purpose on the island and he is asking for advise from Ralph because he looks up to him.

  4. Roger • “Roger was dropping them, one hand on the lever.” p. 180 • Roger was flinging the stones with his lever when there was no one around to hit with the stones. • Roger is evil and likes violence even when there is no need for using violence.

  5. Sam & Eric • “You’ve got to go Ralph.” p. 187 • Now that Piggy is dead, Ralph is on his own. He wonders up to Castle Rock to find Sam and Eric on top like guards. They warn Ralph that Jack is setting out on a hunt for him. • Sam and Eric like being a part of Jacks tribe but they still care about Ralph and don’t want him to be killed.

  6. Jack • “He’s going to beat Wilfred.” p.159 • Jack and Piggy hiked up to Castle Rock to find Roger guarding the entrance. While they are talking to Roger they hear screams coming from one of the littluns because he was getting tied up but no body knew why he was getting tied. • Jack rules his tribe with violence. Violence keeps Jacks tribe following him because they now fear them and would be afraid to leave.

  7. Jack • “See I told you. He’s dangerous.” p. 194 • When Jack and his tribe find Ralph with his sharpened stick he warns his tribe that he is dangerous. • Jack still rules his tribe by fear by falsely accusing Ralph of being violent and dangerous.

  8. Ralph • “Who’s Boss here?” “I am.” said Ralph loudly. • While Ralph was running away from Jack and his tribe he finds someone standing on the beach. This man has come to rescue them and wants to know who is in charge and if there were any adults there. • Although Ralph knows everyone follows Jack as leader he still continues to think of himself as the leader and will take responsibility.
