  3. Why it matters • Your conclusion is the last thing the reader sees! • The reader evaluates your paper based on what is in the conclusion; it leaves a lasting impression!

  4. Picture this • Imagine you’re watching a big game • The game is in overtime with 20 second left. • Then, the TV goes fuzzy and the sound is blurred • How would you feel?

  5. Picture this • Imagine you’re watching a suspenseful movie • Then, right at the climax of the action, the projector shuts off and the lights come on. The movie is over.

  6. About conclusions • Conclusions are just as important to readers as they are to the audience of a film. • Good conclusions grow naturally out of the body you are composing. • You should never just write “The End” or “OK bye” when you feel tired of writing.

  11. All together • In conclusion, if there’s one more holiday that deserves national recognition, it’s April Fool’s Day. April Fool’s Day allows people to celebrate the humor in life. Is there a strong statement at the end? • In conclusion, Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece are very similar in their geography and religion, but quite different in the setup of their government. Both civilizations have similar geography because of their location in the Mediterranean Sea. Also, these two civilizations practiced a polytheistic religion. However, their governments were different because Rome was a republic and Greece was a democracy. Overall, these civilizations are close in location and beliefs, but different in government.

Introduction Paragraph Conclusion Paragraph • Winston Churchill once said, “A man does what he must - in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures - and that is the basis of all human morality.” In this quote, he highlights that man is governed by a sense of morality and integrity. However, as author Ray Bradbury shows in “A Sound of Thunder,” sometimes this sense of morality is overshadowed by selfishness and a self-serving attitude. The hunter in the story, Mr. Eckels, demonstrates Bradbury’s view on human behavior by choosing to visit the past, disregarding his guide’s orders, and changing the course of the future by his carelessness. • Ray Bradbury does not hold much hope for the human race and their future, as he shows in his story, “A Sound of Thunder.” Mr. Eckels chose selfishly to visit the past, allowing himself the opportunity to disrupt the future. He also showed carelessness by not preparing himself mentally or physically for the arduous task of hunting a dinosaur. Fruthermore, he completely disregarded the advice of his guide, Mr. Travis, who tried to stress the importance of the butterfly effect and the dire consequences it can have on the future. Hopefully, Bradbury’s story can be a warning and a message for future generations to take an interest and realize that every action has a consequence.
