Principle I • Union catalog icons provide access to campus library collection in the classroom. • The library web site provides active links-which support TEKS objectives to outside educational resources. • Collaborates with professional staff in developing and providing continuing professional education opportunities.
Principle I (continued…) • Collaborating with other academic librarians provides high school students and staff access to university collections and services. • Collaborating with other institutions and outreach programs provides additional student-learning opportunities. • Collaborating with the public library promotes students and staff participation in summer reading clubs, etc.
Principle II • Uses assessment information based on TEKS objectives to collaborate with teachers. • Participates in campus site-based decision making. • Evaluates the library program to improve its effectiveness in supporting student achievement. • Reviews statistical data to create goals for a long-range library plan and submit an annual report to the school board.
Principle III • Annually reviews and analyzes collection development using 4-5 professional selection tools. • Creates a five-year development plan which evaluates and maintains a library collection. • Utilizes current DDC classification and LC subject headings in compliance with MARC 21 standards. • Utilizes 2-3 cataloging software selection tools.
Principle IV • Participates in the campus long-range technology plan through the district and campus STaRChart. • Develops active links through library web site with the use of state-wide databases for continuing educational purposes. • The librarian researches, evaluates, selects, and uses existing and emergent technology to meet the needs of student and staff. • Uses constructive research models and effective use of existing and emerging technology to facilitate student-centered learning.
Principle V • Collaborates with teachers to facilitate a cohesive learning community. • Annually fulfills at least 90% of student and staff curriculum requests. • Uses effect research process model and rubric for creation of new knowledge. • Teaches and models search tactics.
Principle V (continued…) • Inspires the love of reading through hands-on library activities. • Instruction to students and staff in the use of campus and district collections broadens access in the use of Interlibrary Loan from state and local resource-sharing programs. • Participates in the evaluation of standardized reading scores and identifies, implements and plans programs to improve literacy.
Principle VI • Participates with district committees to understand legal issues pertaining to proprietary rights. • Develops, maintains and promotes board-adopted policies based on intellectual freedom stated in the ALA Library Bill of Rights. • Teaches, models, and maintains confidentiality of library patron records.
Principle VII • Uses library curriculum standards to establish goals for improvement of the library program. • Actively participates in local, state, and national associations. • Subscribes to at least 3 library and educational-related professional journals to maintain awareness of trends, research and best practices.
Principle VII (continued…) • Participates in at least 3 professional listservs or e-mail discussion lists. • Submits program proposals and/or presents workshops at regional, state, or national conferences annually.
