Tying a Figure Eight with a Follow-Through • A figure eight with a follow-through knot creates a secure loop at the end of a rope when the working end must be wrapped around an object or passed through an opening before the loop can be formed. • It is very useful for attaching a rope to a fixed ring or a solid object with an “eye.” • This knot can also be used to tie the ends of two ropes together securely.

  4. Skill Drill 9-11Tying a Figure Eight with a Follow-Through (1 of 2) 1. Tie a regular figure eight, leaving approximately 2 inches of rope at the working end. 2. Loop the working end around or through the object to be secured.
