This study examines the satisfaction of patients with 3D image simulation for breast augmentation. Results show that patients reported higher dissatisfaction after surgery despite receiving information about the limitations of 3D simulations. The study suggests discussing these limitations with patients before surgery.

Use of 3D simulation Currently 3D image simulation is used during the preoperative consultation as a tool to help patients visualize the results of surgical procedures such as breast augmentation.
Clinical Question • Are patients satisfied with the information provided by 3D image simulation after having seen the actual results of surgery?
Study Design This prospective, randomized study compared patient satisfaction with information provided during the preoperative consultation for breast augmentation. • Control Group: Photos of average results shown to patients • Study Group: 3D simulations of possible results shown to the patients Control Group Study Group n=40 n=36 In our study we used the Crisalix 3D system

3D simulation vs. actual result Results After having had their surgery, patients reported a significantly higher dissatisfaction with the information provided by 3D simulation, in spite of having received information regarding the limitations of 3D simulations

Conclusion 3D simulation vs. actual result After having had their surgery, patients reported a higher percentage of dissatisfaction (25%) with the information provided by 3D simulation. The limitations of such imaging programs should be well discussed with patients prior to surgery.
