Helms, a Methodist minister • Today, Goodwill is a $5.5 billion dollar nonprofit enterprise serving nearly 37.3 million through employment and training programs • 165 Goodwill organizations in the U.S. and Canada, 14 Goodwill organizations in other countries around the world. • Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit • Founded in 1921 by Rev. Dr. John E. Martin, pastor of First Methodist Church in Berkley, MI • Created a place to repair and sell donated items, vocational training and support services were added later • Serve 9,000 - 10,000 people/year • Employ about 370 people (Auto Part Assembly, Asset Recovery, Thrift Stores, Employment & Training, Admin) • Mission: to co-create independence and dignity through the power of personal and workforce development
