Statistics • 100 hours is minimum most students need to increase a grade level on a standardized reading test (multiple research 1986-present) • 50% of adult students drop out, many within the first three weeks (Quigley and Uhland, 2000)
What Is Persistence? • adults staying in programs for as long as they can • engaging in self-directed study or distance education when they must stop attending program services, • and returning to program services as soon as the demands of their lives allow. Persistence at NMUSD Adult School • Traditional classes • Many days & times: morning, afternoon, evening, weekdays, Saturdays • Many locations: BESST, Whittier Elementary, CMHS, OCC, College Park Elementary • Distance Learning classes • Many days and times: morning and afternoon, M-F • Many locations: Adams, BESST, Paularino, Pomona, Wilson

What More Can We Do? • COME as much as you can!!! • CALL when you will be absent. • FIND a different class, level, site, time if you can no longer come to this class. • REGISTER for Distance Learning if you cannot come to a traditional class. • COME BACK when you can return to a traditional class.
