Mission Statement The National Association of Educators in Practice (NAEP) exists to provide a support network for educators in practice across the Allied Health Professions, Midwifery, Nursing and all Health and Social care professions.
Who is NAEP for? All practice educators within the Health and Social care professions whose role spans practice and education.
Aims • Promote the facilitation of learning in practice • Promote the importance of the educator/practitioner role • Facilitate the sharing of ideas, literature and expertise • Provide a starting point and support for research activities related to education in practice
History of NAEP • NAEP was set up in 1994 as the National Lecturer Practitioner Forum (NLPF) • The Forum was an independent group led by Professor Sir George Castledine who joined as President in 2004 • Name changed to NAEP in 2006 to reflect the shift in emphasis away from predominantly nursing/midwifery to multi professional focus • Professor Ann Moore elected chair in 2008 • Conference every two years, last one 2006, • NAEP/HSaP `Educating the Educators’ - 17th March 2010
Purpose of NAEP (1) • To support all Health and Social care professionals who have a educating role • To value the importance of practice-based learning • To encourage the development of an evidence base to support learning and educating in practice • To support career development of educators in practice
Purpose of NAEP (2) • To promote publication and dissemination of evidence by educators in practice • To develop an active network that provides opportunities for sharing and dissemination of good practice, collaborative working, support to members and evaluation • To influence policy discussion at local and national levels
NAEP Activities (1) • Provide a structured forum that generates and delivers support to those individuals who are recorded on the Educators in Practice database • Organise conferences, workshops, study days etc to provide the opportunity for sharing and dissemination of good practice, collaborative working, support to members and evaluation • Provide a source of information and expertise that may inform the development of new roles for Educators in Practice and strategies for the advancement of education and service delivery
NAEP Activities (2) • Hold an Annual General Meeting to ensure that NAEP is representative of members and effectively pursues the views of members • Lobby locally and nationally to raise the profile of Educators in Practice within Health and Social Care • Provide a variety of web-based resources to raise awareness of issues pertinent to education and practice
NAEP Activities (3) • Maintain a live database to enable members to network effectively • Promote collaboration with other agencies to underpin and support Educators in Practice • Encourage and support relevant publications in journals and other suitable media
