Notes • Rapid growth in rate of urbanisation • Urban population trebled between 1950 and 1990 • Most of this growth in LEDCs – in cities near the tropics • Over 50% of ALL people now live in a city • Growth of millionaire cities • in 1900 there were only 2 (Paris and London) • Over 300 modern millionaire cities • Ten largest cities over 10 million in size (megacities)
