  1. 6 Things That You Can Do to Prevent Cavities

  2. Prevent Cavities  • By maintaining good dental hygiene habits, you will be able to prevent cavities. • Taking good care of your teeth does not end at the dental office. • You spend more time at home, school or office, so your commitment to dental care is crucial.

  3. Here are Some Simple Cavity Prevention Tips to Take Note Of:

  4. Use a Fluoride Toothpaste • Make it a habit to brush your teeth at least twice daily. Wait for at least thirty minutes before brushing your teeth after mealtime. • Brushing right away may only make your teeth more vulnerable to erosion. • Choose a toothpaste that is recommended by dental authorities, especially for kids.

  5. Rinse Your Mouth • After eating, drink water to help flush down food debris stuck in tight spaces between teeth. You may also rinse your mouth with water or a fluoride mouth rinse. • It's easy to purchase a mouthwash in groceries or a pharmacy. Before you go, check which products have a seal of approval from dental experts. • Remember, too, that rinsing isn't a substitute to flossing and brushing.

  6. Ask About Dental Sealants • Talk to your dentist about getting sealants. Sealants are a protective layer applied on chewing surfaces. • They keep food debris out and help avoid cavities. While sealants are usually recommended for children, adults may also have them. • Sealants can last for several years before needing replacement. If you or your children already have it, go to the dental office regularly to get it checked.

  7. Inquire About Fluoride Treatments • Discuss with your dental team if you will also be needing fluoride treatments. • If your risk for cavities is high, chances are your dentist will recommend this to you. • Fluoride can also be found in water and toothpaste, but in some instances, it may not be enough for your needs.

  8. Avoid Grazing Throughout The Day • When you snack or drink colored beverages several times a day, your teeth also become exposed to acid attacks that often. • Limit snacking throughout the day by indulging in a filling meal. • Minimize intake of acidic or colored beverages as well, such as coffee, tea, and juices.

  9. Eat Healthily • Include fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Like the rest of the body, the mouth also needs nutrition from the food you eat. • To have stronger bones and teeth, it helps to eat food that is rich in calcium. • Vegetables and fruits with high water content help keep the teeth clean by acting as a natural cleanser.
