We of the Papel de Gente Project believe that take care of the planet is to take care of peoples’ mind and of their relationships.These carefulness will improve the quality of life, the sustainability and the values that conduct our day-by-day actions. Papel de Gente*Project exists from 12 years. We recycle 800kg of used paper each month, supporting companies and schools in their environmental education programs. This occur based on the development of recyclable waste collection and other social and environmental programs implemented in partnerships with these organizations which aims to promote the capacity building of people who suffer from psycological diseases, involving and giving them the opportunity to become the conductors of their own therapeutical, and social and environmental processes. This is a very innovative and unique proposal of work in the Mind Health field concerning its treatment results and dynamics. Our work is strongly based on creativity. We have created and put into the production line more than 72 products, we could be adapted for the needs of our clients, becoming one of the biggest manufactories of artisanal recycled paper products in São Paulo municipality. The users of our the mind health treatment develop a good stability in its emotional and clinical frameworks, reducing the use of medicines, diminishing their outbrake occurances in 96%. All of these results can be obtained with monthly costs of the treatment that represent 1/3 of the traditional therapeutical ones used in the public institutions. The purpose of this case study is to show our history and the main daily challenges in terms of management of our sustainability sharing these experiences with the audience. * “Papel de Gente” has two meanings in Portuguese: refers to the “Role of people” in our struggle for a better and more sustainable world (that means to act as real planetary citizens), and also means “Paper made by people”. Both of these meanings are integrated in a single idea that involves sustainability of all the processes used to build and in the development of all our products and citizenship activities.
Mind Health and its Consequences - A World Health Organization (of the United Nation – UN)´s study reveals that 25% of the world population suffer from any kind of mental disease. - There are 1.8 million diagnosis of Esquizophrenia in São Paulo State. Only within the period of five months in 2006, there were 50 thousands new cases diagnostic by the Government. - Use of conventional treatment approaches.

The challenge of recycling social roles Viability studies: groups and volunteers helped to improve this kind of study, built commercial and business action plans, and also strategic planning for financial fund raising used in 2007. Each action plan has its own strategic principles and aims to reduce the influence of sazonality of products selling and resources for investments of the entity in its pathway to sustainability. 2005 and 2006: year of the new start of the Project – improvement of its management and production processes and controls. 2007 Strategic Plan: social, therapeutical, environmental, financial/ commercial, management, and infrastructural targets,
