  4. What is Advanced Placement? • Rigorous college-level courses which require an end of course exam • Requires a commitment of at least 5 hours per week outside of class along with study sessions leading up to the exam • BCHS will offer over 20 AP courses during the 2017-2018 school year

Benefits of AP • Rigor equivalent to university freshman courses • Depth and breadth of subject matter • Preparation for SAT and ACT • Academic preparation for Bright Futures Awards • Possible college credit or advanced standing with scores 3-5 • Enhanced GPA with AP weight (+ 0.08) with course grade of C or better

Benefits of AICE • AICE in Collier County • Develops an investigative approach to learning • Offers a variety of subject areas • 55 courses possible • 10 courses offered at BCHS • Adds to GPA • Pre-AICE = Honors weight (+ 0.04) • Course grade of C or better • AICE = AP weight (+ 0.08) • Course grade of C or better

  12. Difference Between Pre-AICE & AICE • 9th grade: students may take Pre-AICE Spanish 2 and/or AICE Geography • 10th, 11th and 12th grade: students can participate in AICE classes even though they may not wish to earn the diploma. • Visit our website: bchsaice.weebly.com

AICE Diploma Candidates must obtain seven AICE credits • Pass seven AICE courses and examinations within 25 months • Take at least one exam from each of four subject groups & Global Perspectives: • Group 1: Mathematics & Science • Group 2: Languages • Group 3: Arts & Humanities • Group 4: Interdisciplinary Studies • Global Perspectives

AdditionalBenefits of AICE AICE Diploma candidates: • Earn Bright Futures Academic Scholar Awards (no test score threshold) • Prepare for SAT or ACT exams • Volunteer 100 hours of community service • May accrue up to 45 college credits with passing scores • All Florida Universities award college credit for AICE courses just as they do for AP. • Over 450 US universities accept AS and A Level courses including all Ivy League and Ivy Plus universities.

  15. Do students have to earn the full AICE Diploma in order to earn college credits? • No. Colleges award credit on a subject–by–subject basis according to grades earned on individual examinations passed.

Dual Enrollment (DE) & Early Admission • For Grades 11 & 12 Only • Students must meet eligibility requirements (required GPA and entrance test scores) • For students aiming for the state university system, DE may be most beneficial • On and off-campus options available • College-level instruction • Grade earned becomes part of permanent college transcript

Benefits of NAF • Students earn industry certification. • Students who earn industry certifications have a competitive edge upon graduation and become more marketable in the workplace. • Students can receive college credit after obtaining an industry certification through state or local articulation agreements. • Students can still take AP and AICE courses.
