  2. Abrupt (adj) • Sudden; unexpected • The train came to an abrupt stop, which startled the passengers.

  3. Bankrupt (adj) • To be out of money; financially ruined; to “break the bank” • The owner of the store went bankrupt when people stopped shopping at his store.

  4. Corrupt (adj , v) • Evil; dishonest; to break away from honesty • The corrupt boss was very mean to his employees. • Do not corrupt your little cousins by encouraging them to do the wrong thing.

  5. Corruptible (adj) • Able to be influenced into doing something that breaks away from the rules; able to become bad • Her corruptible little brother would do anything to get attention.

  6. Disrupt (v) • To break up; to cause confusion • Do not disrupt the students who are taking a test.

  7. Disruption (n) • Something that breaks someone’s concentration; bothersome; annoying • The loud noise from the construction was a major disruption to my sleep.

  8. Erupt (v) • To explode; to break out with force • The volcano is predicted to erupt this year.

  9. Interrupt (v) • To break into someone’s conversation • Do not interrupt your mother when she is on the phone.

  10. Interruption (n) • Something that breaks up what you were doing; an unplanned event that breaks up an activity • I would like to study without any interruptions.

  11. Rupture (v) • To burst or break open (usually a body part) • Her appendix ruptured, and she had to be rushed to the hospital.
