Don Quixote, fantastic variations for cello & orchestra, Op. 35 • Tone Poem-(symphonic poem) a type of program music for orchestra based on an extra-musical idea, story, or program • Inspired the 17th C. novel Don Quixote by Miguel Cervantes • Composed: 1897Length: c. 40 minutesOrchestration: piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, English horn, 2 clarinets (2nd = E-flat clarinet), bass clarinet, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon, 6 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 2 tubas, timpani, percussion (small bells, bass drum, cymbals, side drum, tambourine, triangle, wind machine), harp, and strings, plus solo cello and viola • Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra: Formed in 1991, the LPO is the longest-standing musician-governed and operated orchestra in the United States and the only full-time professional orchestra in the Gulf South.   5. Field Trip Schedule and Rules • Pack a lunch and bring a snack (I will supply ice and ice chests for your lunch. You will need to eat something before we get on the bus. Lunch will be at approx. 12:30 and you will not be allowed to eat or drink anything inside of Mahailia Jackson Theatre) • Friday- come to Tal. Music 2nd hour (we will walk to front of school to leave at 8:45) • If you are not attending the trip you will report to Mr. Polito in theatre, or Mrs. Danby in Rm. 314. You will have a written assignment to complete equivalent to the grade for field tip • Your behavior and participation is for a grade! If you are caught not following the rules and/or acting in anyway that I deem unfit you will receive a 0. • Lunch in Armstrong Park- site of Congo Square approx. 12:30- 1:00 • Return to school ~ 7th hour

Rules • No eating or drinking • No loud talking • No cell phones ( I will allow you mid-way through the rehearsal, during a break to check in at LPO and post a comment or take photos) Be sure to “like” the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra) • No sleeping • No feet on the chairs • No roaming, you must stay with group • No reading • Leave the bus clean when we return • Have FUN 
