Influential • Mary Quant always wanted to be a fashion designer. • She told the BBC when she was 6 or 7, that she had got in trouble for having cut up her bed sheets to make new clothes. • She went to art school, met her husband, and together they planned to open a shop that would sell very short skirts, stretchy tights, and tunic dresses. • In 1955, they opened Bazaar in Chelsea.

  3. Mary quant • Born in Blackheath, Southeast London. • One of the designers who took credit for inventing the miniskirt and hot pants. • Most popular designs were sweater dresses with plastic collars.

  4. Early life • Went to Blackheath High School, then studied illustration at Goldsmiths College. • 1st store she opened in London named Bazaar. • Decided to make her own range of clothing.

  5. Later Career • Concentrated on household goods and make-up, rather than just her clothing lines. • Winner of the Minerva Medal, the Society's highest award. • There are over 200 Mary Quant Colour shops in Japan.

  6. Awards • Was appointed OBE for her outstanding contribution to the fashion industry. • Accepted the award in her inimitable style, arriving at Buckingham Palace in a micro-mini skirt and black cut-out gloves. • Won Hall of Fame Award of the British Fashion Council.
