  2. The Situation A longrange of austeritymeasures hitting youngpeoplehard: • Dismantledunemploymentinsurance • Lower standards of certainuppersecondaryclasseducation – do not qualify for highereducation • Less places of highereducation

  3. Jobs for youngpeople • Parttimejobs • Fixed term employmentcontracts • Informalemployment relations • Temporarymanpoweragencies – create no new jobs – butjobs with poorerconditions • Historically high general unemployment – 8,2 %. Age 15 – 24 of age – 23,9 %.

  4. Governmentmeasures • Tax reductions to hope to createincreaseddemand. • Reduction of social costs for youngpeople with 50%. Hoping the market willcreate new jobsalso for youngpeople. DON´T WORK

  5. Trade Union YouthManifesto The right to work • Policy with full employment as target must be introduced. Job-generatinginvestmentswithininfrastructure, housing and welfare system. • Young people must have the same rights to economiccompensation in case of unemployment. No discrimination! • Direct access to jobguaranteeprogramme.

  6. Trade Union YouthManifesto • A right to a ”second chance” – givingyoungpeoplecompetence and experience. • Moretraining posts in municipal adulteducation and vocationalschools. • Improvededucation in uppersecondaryschool and qualify for further studies.

Trade Union YouthManifesto Decentemployment • All youngadultsoffereddecentemploymentcontracts and wagesaccording to the collectiveagreement in force. • The permanent, full-timeemployment must be established as the norm on the entirelabour market. • Misuse of fixed-termemploymentcontracts must be prevented. • Must be easier for employees of manpoweragencies to forseetheir work situation.

  8. Trade Union YouthManifesto A salary to live on • A collectiveagreement at all places of work. • That probationary periods withoutpay is eradicated. • That minimum wages in collectiveagreements must be raised. • The principle of equalpay for equal work must apply – not excludingyoungpeople.

Trade Union YouthManifesto A progressive workingenvironment • Young adults are offered the right to personal and professionalenhancemantirrespective of form of employment. • That the employertakesissuesregarding stress seriously. • The employer are to encourage the election of trade union representatives at places of work.

Trade Union YouthManifesto • The employerorganizes the work and supplyadequateequipment to avoid risks as robbery, threats and violence at theirplaces of work. • That dangerous and periloussolitary work shall not occur. • That the employer´s organisations shouldtraintheirmembers in ”The Act on CO-determination” to improve the dialogue and grant youngadultsmoreinfluence at theirplaces of work.

  11. Agreements on employment integration Tri – partite: Government, Employer´s organisations, LO-Trade Unions • A subvention of social costs • Support to tutors at the workplace • National support structurefortheeducation • Certain support to the social partners

  12. Agreement on employment integration • With somechanges LO –TU agreed • Business Sweden withdraw from the triparty discussions • 4 TU havesignedagreements with employers organisations at branchlevel • 13 of 14 LO Trade Unions are discussing, negotiatingagreements.
