  1. The Big Q: Quests, Questions, and Quotas Session #4 Topic: Purpose

  2. The culmination of our experiences: • Each of us reacts to change in different ways • Change in our lives brings new relationships • The relationships we form with others will either help us grow into stronger, more successful adults OR place speed bumps in our path • Who you are, the identity you develop over time, can be vastly affected by the people placed in your path • This identity affects your path in life, and the changes you experience from now on! • Change  Relationships  ChoicesPurpose

  3. Our Quest: Purpose • We all strive for purpose, it’s our fulfillment in life • The decision for a certain career or major is NOT the end of the road- we are more than that! • Each of us has a natural niche in the world, we just have to find it. • This is a process (Decisions + Changes + Relationships = Who we Become) • The Cycle of Change: Our purpose changes us into who we are, and we change FOR this purpose.

  4. Questions: How do we find our purpose? On the Island: What do we know? • Characters on “Lost” continuously wondered why they were on the island. • Could all of their experiences mean something more? • Watch this clip to discover the answers to their questions:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMC-7genss8&feature=related • A force greater than these individuals called them to the island. • Each experience on the island- and those produced as a result of their time there- were part of a larger plan. • Passengers could not have realized this destiny on their own. • They needed the island!

  5. Flashback Time! • Find your self description from Session #1. • At this point, would you consider yourself the same, or different? • Journal your thoughts on the sheet provided, then report out to the group.

  6. Let’s Check it Out! The End of a Journey: So What? • This is the final scene of the final episode of “Lost.” • This is the culmination of a quest that spans the entire series. Watch as characters fulfill their purpose, and accept their fate and its impact on others around them. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vrNyC25-8Q&feature=related • Watch this explanation of the final scene, and the relevance it holds for our own lives: • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XKAtzB6_ds&feature=fvwrel (5:00)

  7. What does their Quest mean for Our lives? • The relationships built on the island, and the rippling events that forged them, are not too far from our own. • While we may think we lead less dramatic lives, the basic message is the same. • Watch the first minute of this clip for an explanation of this: • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PJZgca0sno&feature=related

  8. Survey time!

  9. Wrapping It Up: • Our lives are filled with questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What paths will my life follow? • Our entire life is a quest, a journey, which we must take. The decisions we make and the relationships we form will affect the direction of this journey. • Our quota is this: Relationships, Change, and Decisions. We cannot escape any of these, but will certainly be made better for them. • What direction will your life take? What are you doing today to shape that path? • Never under estimate the power of decisions and relationships on your life’s journey. Embrace it! 
