Context for DOQ Initiative • Pilot of an integrated approach to quality at the level of the physician clinic • If it works: • Basis for 8th SOW • Basis for public recognition and reporting
Goals for 3 State DOQ Pilots • Define quality of care for chronic disease and preventive services using measures which clinicians believe are reasonable & will facilitate better care • To develop strategies for quality improvement for chronic disease and preventive services in physician offices • To test incentives for physicians to participate in quality improvement
DOQ Timeline • October/November 2002- Pilot states selected & QIO contracts awarded • February 2003- Measures selected May 2003- Pilot starts in physician offices in 3 states • May 2005- Pilot completed • July 2005- Evaluation of project completed • August 2005 – DOQ implemented in 50 states if successful
DOQ Incentives • CME module: 7th SOW (IFMC) • Malpractice risk reduction module (IPRO) • Public recognition (CMRI)
