What keeps me up @ night • Revenue – It’s what pays our bills! • Clinical practice % (payor mix always a concern) • Reimbursement rates predicted to decrease (WI healthcare providers among highest reimbursed in nation) • Healthcare reform • What does it mean when fully implemented • How will it impact our operations? • Research • Continuing reexamination of boundaries between science and ethics • Uncertainty of laws governing research
Affordable Care Act Timeline “What Happens When” • March 23, 2010 – The Affordable Care Act was Signed into Law • 2010 – 26 Provisions were put into effect including: • Prohibiting Denying Coverage of Children for Pre-Existing Conditions • Extending Coverage for Young Adults • Eliminating Lifetime Limits on Insurance Coverage • 2011 – 20 Provision were put into effect: • Providing Free Preventive Care for Seniors • Offering Prescription Drug Discounts • Changes to Tax-Free Savings Accounts • 2012 – 11 Provisions were put into effect: • Encouraging Integrated Health Systems • Linking Payment to Quality Outcomes • Reducing Paperwork and Administrative Costs
Affordable Care Act Timeline“2013” • 2013 – 15 total Provisions, 5 currently in effect: • State Notification Regarding Exchanges • Wisconsin will default to federal health insurance exchange • Exchanges to be operational January 1, 2014 • Medicaid Payments for Primary Care • Governor Walker announced Wisconsin will not agree to a federally backed Medicaid Expansion • Seeks a hybrid approach by removing the cap on BadgerCare Plus Core; reducing the eligibility level to 100 percent of poverty level and expecting effected would gain coverage in the federal exchange. • Wisconsin is one of 14 states not participating in Medicaid Expansion • Plan requires federal approval • Medicare Bundles Payment Pilot Program • Tax on Medical Devices
