GOD’S WILL Discerning “Why is it Important?”
Does God really want us to understand and know His will? • Why is it important that we know what His will is? • How does He reveal His will to us? • Does He have a specific will for me?
How do I find out what God’s will is for me? • How will He show me? • How can I know for sure what is (or is not) God’s will for me? • What are the hindrances and obstacles I will face?
THREE QUESTIONS: 1.Does God really want us to know? 2. Why is it important for us to know God’s will? 3. How does God reveal His will to us?
A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF… 1. What is on God’s heart. 2. Why He does what He does. 3. How our lives can count.
“Be very careful, then, how you live-- not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:17
“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
“Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.” Colossians 1:9-10
“Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” Colossians 4:12
GOD REVEALS HIS WILL THROUGH 1. His Word – the Bible.
Commands • Principles • Instructions • Examples
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Timothy 3:16
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
GOD REVEALS HIS WILL THROUGH 2. Jesus Christ’s example.
“Meanwhile his disciples urged him, "Rabbi, eat something." But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about." Then his disciples said to each other, "Could someone have brought him food?"
“My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” John 4:31-34
“For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.” John 6:38
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” Philippians 2:13
