  1. Harry Golding In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

  2. The Post-Apocalyptic genre • In Post-Apocalyptic (PA) films there are certain conventions that distinguish this genre form any other genre, as PA films the colours are often desaturated unless it is showing a flash back scene. In our film we have kept to this, and we have turned the saturation right down to make world look dirty and undesirable. • The shot sizes tend to be larger to let you see the full devastation of the PA world and the close up are used to convey emotion like all films. “The Road” has lots of these long devastation shots so you as the audience can full visualize the surroundings but because the film is based on the relationship of the little boy and his father it has lots of close ups to convey the actors emotions. Our film again keeps to these conventions as there is a long shot of the main character walking to a barn in the middle of nowhere. The long shot with singularly building and one person in the shot makes you feel like the person Is isolated and that they have been walking for quite a while. • The ultimate reason for genres though is too sell film tickets, this is because if this PA label wasn’t there you wouldn’t know it was a Post Apocalyptic film and may not decide to watch it.

  3. Narrative of our trailer • It starts with the main character by himself walking through countryside this is to set the tone for the opening of the film as the equilibrium in the film isn’t disrupted until much later in the film. • In the start of the trailer there is quite a lot of establishing shots to give an idea of the desolate and isolated areas that our main character is travelling through. • Your first taste of the danger in the narrative comes when you see the main character grappling with another character, this shot is meant to show that the main character finds it hard to trust people in this new world maybe due previous run ins with the zombie horde. • The trailer never specifically shows any zombies face on but there are various points that hint at them e.g. The quick cut sequence where you see very briefly one of the main characters getting chased. • The trailer concludes with the main character talking directly into the camera and telling his parents that he loves them. This may be a hint that he is in trouble or that the he is in a point in the narrative where he has no hope. This ender to the trailer will hopefully grab the audience and make them want to find out what happens in the film.

  4. Characters for Post Apocalytic • The Main character in PA films often have a lot of the same characteristics for example they are usually brave, aggressive and a loner. • Other characters in the film tend to be the complete opposite as they usually need protection E.G. The little boy in “The Road” is totally reliant on his father through out the film. • Our main character follows the conventions to the letter as at the start of the film he is alone , he knows how to handle himself and his only intention seems to be getting to the safe room up north. He is loosely meant to resemble the dad from “The Road” because he has to look out for our other character. • The other character is much more ordinary kid as he is more obviously affected by the scenario . he always follows the main character and he is the reason for much of the disruption in the film because he is careless. He is supposed to resemble the boy from “The Road” because he wouldn’t survive the new world with out our main character.

  5. Magazine cover and poster • The magazine cover follows all the conventions of a Little White Lies magazine cover, as the photo has been shopped to give it a distorted and strange effect similar to the painted and drawn covers LWL. The font of the title is the same as the one used in the trailer which adds to the continuality of the pieces. • The poster is less planned out as I was rushed when doing this one, but I did try to get a few things across. The title was placed like that because the “UP” was supposed to show that something important is there and the “NORTH” implies that might be something sinister there.
