  5. Lipase Applications • Projected global lipase market (2012)- $100 million • Existing markets are stagnant • Current markets are dominated by a small number of manufacturers • Rationale For Biodiesel Application • Rapidly growing industry (CAGR >20%) • Lipases allow use of lower-cost feedstocks “However, in order to compete with diesel fuel and survive in the market, lower-cost feedstocks are preferred, including waste cooking oil (WCO), grease, soapstocks [3-18], since feedstocks costs are about more than 85% of the total cost of biodiesel production” -- Fan & Burton, The Open Fuels & Energy Science Journal, 2009

  6. US Biodiesel Market At $3.2B & Growing At 20% • US 2010 biodiesel market size: $3.2 Billion • Expected YOY consumption growth rate in US is 20% • Chinese commercial enzymatic biodiesel production: 6 million gallons/year pilot plant Source: 2010 Euromonitor International • Current State of the Technology • Reaction chemistry demonstrated in lab • Lipase catalyzed process is emerging in biodiesel industry • International patent filed: PCT/US2008/005486 • US patent applied filed: 12/597,821

  7. Next steps for Enhanced-Lipase Technology MARKET PULL QUANTIFICATION • Quantify potential improvements in process efficiency • Assess state of competing technologies addressing market need • Confirm proof of concept in small-scale biodiesel production • Secure additional IP capturing value for biodiesel application TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT CUSTOMER VALIDATION • Sense customer response to biocatalyst application with different feedstock • Perform quantitative product pricing study to establish willingness to pay LICENSING / JV • Perform cost-benefit analysis between JV & licensing • Assess potential partners for commercial launch.
