Project History • 2002 Audit • Price Waterhouse Coopers completed an assessment of current Data Center at ASB • IBM provided a range of solutions • Provost and CFO mandate • Find a long term Disaster Recovery solution • Three viable options explored • New MITC building located off State Street, north of Campus • Primarily designed for research computing across multiple university divisions • Explore options with IT Commons Group that looks for ways to leverage common services, software and hardware • Partner with MCIT (Medical Center IT) • MCIT already had approval for a secondary computing site Joint UL Meeting May 24, 2006
Arbor Lakes Data Center • Addresses issues raised in 2002 audit • Opportunity to share space with MCIT • Secure, modern environment to protect University resources • Provides an environment that enables MAIS to recover more quickly from a disaster • Provides room for future growth Joint UL Meeting May 24, 2006
Planning & Construction • Planning started Fall 2004 • Architectural plans were presented and approved in April 2005. • Construction started on May 16, 2005 Joint UL Meeting May 24, 2006
Move Information Phase 1 • Will move mostly redundant equipment • Tentative date: 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 16 to7:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17 • Few users impacted • After hours for most production users • Few functions impacted • eBill & eFAN statements, OVPD web server, HEPROD & FINPROD Crystal/nVision Reporting, 2 web servers, 2 Citrix servers • Will test the move process to prepare for the August move • Validate our timing estimates Joint UL Meeting May 24, 2006
Move Information Phase 2 • Will move production systems • Tentative dates: 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 4 to7:00 a.m. Monday, August 7 • Most users impacted • Functions impacted • FINPROD, FINODS, HEPROD, HEODS, Data Warehouse, eResearch, MAIS LINC, WebNow, ImageNow, most Wolverine Access web servers, most citrix servers, etc. • Physical move contracted with IBM • Contingency contract with all hardware vendors Joint UL Meeting May 24, 2006
Building Enhancements • Diesel generator (redundant power supply) • Fire suppression system • Under the floor water detection capability • Enhanced security • At the building entrance • Key card access to the machine room • Flexible work areas • 4670 sq ft of raised floor space • MAIS will occupy 1200 sq. ft. • Network infrastructure to support production level SLA • Supporting infrastructure enables future growth Joint UL Meeting May 24, 2006
