  1. Delft Aardwarmte Project2015… and counting Towards geothermal energy as a sustainable solution, through research and education

  2. DAP: Short intro • Founded in 2007 by Applied Earth Science students and alumni • Non-profit organisation, 4-man board: 2 students, 2 alumni • Initial goal 2007: drilling rig on the campus asap! • Supported by a large network of Dutch mining engineers • Supported by industry partners and government • Quickly received permits and made initial well design

  3. Our License to Drill

  4. Research and education The Delft Geothermal Project was founded by Applied Earth Science students and alumni in 2007

  7. DAP research: status 2015 • 20 BSc. Projects • 16 MSc. Projects • Popular course in geothermal energy • 2012: start of 4-year EFRO research programme -PhD research (Cees Willems) -Post-doc researcher (Hamid Nick) -A Professor in Geothermics (Prof. David Bruhn)

  8. DAP: The future • More students, more research projects! • Geothermics as a research group in Delft • Deep geothermal energy in the NL? • Well interference monitoring • Composite casing for geothermal wells • Geothermal well logging • Efficient energy extraction from low-enthalpy wells • Geothermal energy in smart grids • etc • Campus well: business case continuously revised

  9. MVD1: Still a great idea • Sustainable heat source for the new campus • Unique and vast research potential for TU Delft and industry • Several TU Delft disciplines combined into 1 project • Once in a lifetime opportunity for all parties involved • Is a lot less ugly than a wind mill. And is much quieter too. Goal in 2015: drilling rig on the campus ASAP!
