Jacob A. Mercatoris Technology Risk Management PNC Financial Services
Professional Background • Sr. Technology Risk Officer – PNC Financial Services • Coordinate evaluation of technology risks and controls • Assist management with technology control design & implementation • Serve as a liaison between the lines of business and MIS • Assist management with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance • Sr. Associate, IT Advisory Services – KPMG LLP • Assisted advisory clients with the evaluation of their technology risks and the design and implementation of their technology controls • Audited the design and implementation of technology controls of audit clients • Provided independent validation of the design and implementation of technology controls for 3rd party service providers.
Education and Credentials • Education • MBA (Strategy Concentration) / MS-MIS Katz School of Business, University of PittsburghClass of 2005 • BS, Mass CommunicationsMiami University, Oxford, OHClass of 1999 • Certifications • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) • Professional organizations • Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)
Expertise • Expertise – IT General Controls and how IT General Controls support policies, procedures, business processes and operating practices of the lines of business. • Example – Recent segregation of duties analysis • Segregation of duties means ensuring no one person can take a transaction from initiation through posting to the general ledger. • Application access should support business segregation of duties • Analyzing system access to ensure it supports business segregation of duties requires an understanding of the business processes, the IT infrastructure that supports the business, and segregation of duties concepts. • The segregation of duties analysis for PNC’s Sarbanes Oxley applications was just successfully completed, with rollout to our Non-SOX high risk applications scheduled to begin in 2008.
Reputation • Professionally, I’m known as a driven leader: • At Katz, I often functioned as the project leader for team projects • At KPMG, I was among only 2 individuals hired as Associates in 2005 that was promoted to Sr. Associate in 2006 (the other was a Katz grad) • I continue to drive my teams towards results at PNC: • The segregation of duties analysis for SOX applications required the effective coordination of over 150 project participants and received significant scrutiny by Internal Audit, the OCC, and external auditors. • Since joining PNC in April of 2007, I’ve helped the organization make significant progress towards achieving higher levels of governance and regulatory compliance.
Professional Development • Continuing education is critical to furthering my professional development. • At KPMG I spent 80 -120 hours a year in training to broaden my skills • At PNC I take advantage of online and instructor led training to learn various aspects of the business and financial services industry. • I’m currently pursuing additional certifications: • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) • I attend a 3 hour web-seminar monthly to keep current on governance, regulatory & compliance issues in my field.
