THE FLORIDA SCENIC HIGHWAYS PROGRAM IS NON-REGULATORY • The only restriction is that FDOT will not issue any new billboard permits along the proposed corridor under FDOT jurisdiction.

The FBBSB Corridor Advocacy Group (CAG) and Corridor Management Entity (CME) have held open public meetings, festivals and public workshops for over two years in various locations along the corridor such as Barberville, Astor, Four Corners and Silver Springs. The CME will continue the public outreach for the byway.

Florida Black Bear Scenic Highway Corridor Management Entity (CME) Accomplishments • Participated and member of review team for the SR 40 PD&E with FDOT • Obtained Florida Scenic Highway designation in 2008 • Submitted nomination application for designation as an All-American Road • Established a web site for the byway at www.flbbb.org • Published a Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway brochure • Began design Juniper Springs Trail Head and kiosk for the FNST • Incorporation in the State of Florida Corridor Management Entity
Florida Black Bear Scenic Highway Corridor Management Entity (CME) Accomplishments • Coordinating with FDOT on the following projects: • Design Phase for I&E Center at the Pioneer Settlement @ Barberville • Design Phase to expand Ocklawaha Visitor Center, Pittman Visitors Center • Wildlife Crossings identified in the PD&E • Planning and design for a non-motorized and hiking trail from Silver River State Park to Ray Wayside Park on the Ocklawaha River Corridor Management Entity
Florida Black Bear Scenic Highway Corridor Management Entity (CME) Future Projects • Obtain 501(c)(3) Status • Raise private/corporate funds and obtain grants from national and state agencies • Pursue the design and construction of the following byway facilities: • Prepare National Scenic Byway Grant Applications for projects • Coordinating with FDOT to beautify retention ponds along the propose widening of SR 40 Corridor Management Entity
Where we go from here… • Designation Celebration/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony • October 24, 2009 Camp Ocala • Market and Promote the Friends of the Black Bear Scenic Byway as part of a larger marketing plan to build community awareness and support • Encourage jurisdictions along the Byway to incorporate the Byways Vision, Goals, and Objectives into planning documents • Develop the Corridor Master Plan • Develop Brochures, Audio Tours and Interpretive Signage
