  1. title of the study names of the members of the group

  2. what you will study • Explain what the objectives of the research are. • For example: We want to study how Latino adolescents construct their identity. In order to do this we have • defined "adolescents" as 13-18 (still in school). • defined "identity" as beliefs and attitudes.

  3. how you will study For example • We have chosen several factors to stand in for "beliefs and attitudes" • based on Pew Hispanic Center's study of Latino youths and dropout rates: • English ability • employment • factors based on Cabrera and Rodriguez's study: • individual: education serves an important purpose • family-related: family provides strong support • structural: perception of school environment as inclusive

  4. why do we study this? • “Along a number of important dimensions, children and adolescents in immigrant families appear to experience better health and adjustment than do children and youth in native-born families” (Hernandez, 1999). • We want to know what we can do to improve health and adjustment of native-born Latinos. • We believe a teenager's "beliefs and attitudes" are crucial to positive "adjustment" in life.

  5. bibliography • Cabrera and Rodriguez, Latino youth's beliefs and attitudes and their influence on after-school activity participation, University of Minnesota, 2011. • Fry and Passel, Latino children: A Majority are U.S.-Born Offspring of Immigrants, Pew Hispanic Center, 2009.
