Parameterize Primary Protons • AMS Result for Near Earth Orbit • Space Shuttle @ altitude 380 km. • 2 components • For k.e.>~10 GeV “geomagnetic cutoff”, a power law spectrum (see fit) • Below the cutoff, a second spectrum different from that observed in the Van Allen belts and in upper atmosphere. • Observed to be isotropic Spectrum (Table 3) and Fit From: Alcaraz et al., PLB 490, 27 (2000). Primary Proton Parametrization • Integrate over k.e. • One could extend this using the power law formula displayed on previous slide.
Generate Spectrum • I wrote Fortran code that produces a data file (see plot). • Need to add the angular normalization and decide the geometry of mother volume (we can change later).
