  2. Root: Path Meaning: suffer, feel Words: -sympathize -pathetic -pathology

  3. Sympathize To feel or express compassion; to share or understand another’s feelings She has lost her mother the year before, so she could sympathize with the pain he was feeling over the loss of his mother.

  4. Pathetic Expressing or arousing pity, sympathy, or tenderness After dropping her ice cream, the sad child had pathetic look on her face.

  5. Pathology The scientific study of the nature of diseases such as causes, processes, and development She wants to study pathology to try to find a cure for cancer.

  6. Root: Phob Meaning: fear; hatred Words: -phobia -claustrophobic -agoraphobia

  7. Phobia A persistent, abnormal or illogical fear of a specific thing or situation She has a phobia of spiders.

  8. Claustrophobic Having a pathological or unreasonable fear of confined spaces The thought of being locked in a port-a-potty terrified the claustrophobic woman.

  9. Agoraphobia An abnormal fear of open spaces The man who suffered from agoraphobia refused to drive across the desert.
