Project Framework • Local Businesses approached to sponsor and provide expertise • Pupils/students (or young people at youth centre) work in a TEAM (maximum around 5-7 per team) • TEAM(S) are appointed as Investment Manager • Virtual Investment - £5,000 per TEAM (we will not charge interest!) • TEAM be paid a Management Fee • TEAM will invest in real businesses over 12 - 15 weeks; they will buy and sell shares • Businesses can be UK only or Global • Transaction fee of £2 every time TEAM make a transaction • Research and analyse Global Industries & companies using internet, library and media • Think about Ethical Investment criteria (Fair Trading) • TEAM can keep any ‘ Virtual Profit’ over the initial Investment
Skill Set • TEAMS are motivated to make money but importantly the Project will provide participants with skills that will help in whatever they decide to do……………. • Team working • Analytical – ability to look into issues and situations • Interpret and Report • Communicate • Interpersonal & behaviour • Pupils/Students and young people will be taught how to prepare Spreadsheets to monitor performance and produce Profit & Loss Accounts
How it will work • Pupils/students or young people attending youth centres decide on Investment Management Team(s) • They decide when they want to meet as an Enterprise Club (weekly – fortnightly?) • Also decide on how they can work as a Team in between these meetings – TEAMS will need to agree on how to prepare and present analysis & recommendations • Local business people will be encouraged to facilitate Enterprise Clubs and provide mentors & sponsorship • To support them we have set up • www.schoolbiz.org.uk • Participants can decide whether to make Enterprise Club a permanent activity
